Summary: Berneetha is an enthusiastic middle aged woman. She has an mission to create a community garden in her Minnesota town. Berneetha gets help from anyone who is willing including her twelve year old neighbor Kate, and a troubled boy named Harlan. The three begin work on their garden, and some of the members of the community do not see the point of creating a garden. Slowly but surely some of the town members begin enjoying the garden, and the community people even provide items for the garden. The garden begins to grown until the group stumbles upon a problem. The garden has to be moved because the owner wants to build a parking garage. Kate wonders what will happen to the garden, and why they can't keep their garden where it is.
